Built in 1925 as a single screen movie theater, holding 1,200 people, by architect Lewis A.Smith, the man who built the Vista Theatre in Los Feliz. Inside is a mix of Baroque & Egyptian design.

It's been deemed unsafe by the fire department and is closed. Sad to see such a cool theater in this state. Hope it gets fixed, but I'm not holding my breath. These places are a dying breed.

In the novel Now Playing: Stoner & Spaz II by Ron Koertge, the main character Ben is a big movie buff and the Rialto is his favorite theater.
