Great smaller site that stands in contrast to the craziness of Monticello.

The tour isn't terribly impressive, but it's still informative and the chance to wander the stunning grounds afterwards is worth it. The wedding I went to here also benefitted highly from the scenery.

Take time to explore the grounds. It still functions as a working far, so you can get a sense of what life was like when Monroe lived here.

Cool place. No wait time unlike Monticello. So if your stuck waiting at Jefferson's place for 3 hrs, hop over here!

A great place to get married! Especially on 4/30/11.

President James Monroe & wife, Elizabeth made this their home from 1799 to 1823. After the Monroes' death, the name of their farm was changed from "Highland" to "Ash Lawn". Today both names are used.
