Rome: the interweaving of antiquity and modernity
Modern Rome is the capital of Italy, a major cultural, economic and tourist centre.
In ancient times, the city was the heart of a huge empire that encompassed all of the Mediterranean and part of Asia. That's why the map of Rome is an intertwining and fusion of architectural monuments. In the city there are places of interest that belong to different historical periods: antiquity, the Middle Ages, renaissance, modern buildings. It is worth visiting the centre of the ancient Roman Forum, the ruins of ancient temples, baths and other structures, perfectly preserved to this day, the Colosseum and the the Pantheon. Other popular places in the city include: Castel Sant'Angelo, St. Peter's Basilica, Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Navona, Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi and the Trevi Fountain. Let us note that churches, cathedrals and other religious buildings in Rome alone total more than 900. It will take you several days and the city guide to make your way around the city.Rome's transport is an extensive network of bus and tram routes, as well as one trolleybus line from Termini Station. The development of the metro in the city is limited due to the large number of architectural monuments and excavations, the safety of which will be threatened by underground construction. To date, only a few underground lines operate in Rome.
