以前は池袋、北千住に次ぐ東武鉄道第3位の乗降者数を誇っていたのですが、今は随分減りましたね

駅周辺フィリピン人をはじめ、アジア系外国人が多いです。地価が安い他、都営やURの団地も多数あるので、生活保護、低所得者が多いです。開かずの踏切対策で現在高架化工事中。

2018年の夏に上りホームが現在の下りホームに移ってきます。しばらくの間朝のラッシュは殺人的混雑になると思います

かつて、東口にはサンライトマンションという東武のマンションがあり、そこの1～3階は東武ストアーと理髪・菓子店などのテナントがありました。また、屋上には日立の大きな広告看板があり竹ノ塚のシンボル的な存在でした。その後マンション部分を取り壊し「竹ノ塚T-BoX」と生まれ変わりましたが、高架化が本格的になり今秋でお別れとなる予定です。
