Singapore is an Asian miracle
Singapore is a city-state, which in just 50 years has transformed itself from fishing settlements to a modern world financial centre.
The map of the Republic of Singapore includes 63 large and small islands with a total area of 719.9 km². It is noteworthy that this figure increases year by year due to the programme of artificial expansion of the territory and dredging of the shores. The main places of interest of Singapore are its nature parks and reserves. Among them you can note the «Bukit Timah»reservation, the «Jurong» bird park, and the tourist island of Sentosa. Even in the city zoo, animals are kept in conditions that are close to natural. Popular places for tourists are the Clarke Quay and embankment, along which a string of shops, pubs, floating restaurants, shops and departments where local people are make and sell things. In Singapore, taxis are one of the main types of public transport. It is worth noting that taxis are regularly used, not only by tourists, but also by city residents. The reason for this is the policy pursued by the municipality: buying your own car on the islands is expensive, and the cost of a taxi in comparison with the average salary is low. So the authorities foresore the problems of traffic jams in a densely built-up city, and with a local driver the tourist does not need a city guide.
