Ireland – a place like no other

For most tourists, the travel around this country begins in Dublin.

And this city is very different from other capitals in how it looks. It still has not been turned into a metropolis full of skyscrapers. The main landmarks – Dublin Castle, Phoenix Park, the General Post Office, and Kilmainham Gaol, formerly a prison, now a museum – give tourists a chance to imagine the city the way it was a couple of centuries ago. And it looks as though nothing has changed since then. That's how respectful the Irish are of their history! While in Dublin, be sure to visit the Guinness Brewery, the picturesque Ha'penny Bridge, and the Temple Bar Square famous for its vibrant night life. The second largest city of Ireland, according to the map, is Cork. Popular places among tourists here are St. Mary's Cathedral, Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral, and the former prison of the 19th century which is now open especially for tourists, so that they could know about the life of prisoners two hundred years back. The Church of St. Anne is also interesting. As the country guide notes, its clock tower is called the Four Faced Liar, as the clock has four faces, and they all show different times. There are also three medieval castles here: Blarney, which bestows eloquence to everyone who kisses its Stone, Desmond, and Blackrock. While traveling around Ireland, you can also visit the beaches near Wexford, the cities of Galway and Waterford, and the Munster province. The easiest way to travel the country is by use of public transport – trains and buses.
