The Congress Column commemorates the creation of the Belgian Constitution by the National Congress between 1830-31. It was erected between 1850 and 1859 and was inspired by Trajan's Column in Rome.

25 metre tall column topped by King Leopold I. Between the bronze lions at the base is an eternal flame honouring the Belgian victims of the two world wars.
